It’s rather fitting that a new four piece band named LUV would arrive with a first song named Loving Somebody. If there’s anyone I’m loving right now, it’s LUV. I take flight into the night sky on their vibrant swelling indie pop. They burst outof LEEDS with endearing warm 80′s synths, heart stealing crunchy guitars, and mellifluous cascading charm. Loving Somebody has already been played on BBC Introducing, and it’s sure to be a new object of affection for many. Despite it’s jovial vibe, the song focuses on the torment of having to get over someone. The task is certainly easier when LUV is there to keep us company. Snag this massive debut from iTunes.

Babylon is probably one of the most widely recognized and well known ancient cities, a legendary civilization renowned for being sophisticated and grand. Babylon is also a fittingly magnificent first introduction to Half The Animal. It’s a cinematic surging, drum thundering anthem from an exciting new four piece band that formed this year in Los Angeles. This infectious soaring combination of alt rock and pop is a preview of much more to come. The band has a debut EP named SHAPES ready to drop on October 28th. You can pre-order from iTunes while we eagerly await the three other tracks on the EP.

UK singer songwriter and producer Laurel has revealed the first single from her new EP Park, and it’s a spellbinding alt folk song named Hurricane. Her breathy exquisite voice pulls us deep into this ruminative tune. Restless plucking strings and a rich atmosphere make Hurricane a supple driving, earthy alluring whirlwind on which Laurel reminds me of early Lykke Li but with the dusty magnetism of Lana Del Rey. Laurel’s new EP, which she self recorded, produced, and mixed on top of writing and performing, will be released on November 18th via Counter Records. Pre-order, here. A debut album is also in the works for early 2017. Watch the black and white video for Hurricane below.

I’ve been a massive fan of ISLAND since the quartet emerged out of London over a year ago with Stargazer. I knew at that moment I would never turn away from this band, and I’ve fallen for every subsequent song they’ve released since. ISLAND returns with their earnest endearing coastal blues on new song, Waves. The four piece explains that Waves is about finding that special someone to take you out of a dark moment in life. Waves’ intricate guitar and post-rock like atmosphere are entrancingly lifting. It’s extraordinary that ISLAND can seem raw and soothing at the same time. It’s as if I can feel the ocean in their music, and it’s crushing and humbling yet breathtakingly beautiful. It’s the same sort of sensation I get when I gaze lovingly into the vastness of the sea. Waves is the first single from ISLAND’s second EP, A Place You Like, due out February 3rd.

Back in 2014, Cobi left his old Boston band Gentlemen Hall so he could follow his heart, which desired to play a soulful style of folk and rock. Fast forward to 2016, and he’s proven that decision a wise one. Cobi demonstrated how immensely powerful and compelling he is as a solo artist with debut single Don’t You Cry For Me. The runaway hit’s gospel and blues as well as the song’s music video carry with them a profound depth. He’s given us the sort of music that brands us for life. We’ve all been waiting to hear what comes next. Cobi returns to us with a sensational hymnal for his second song named Prophet Story, transfixing us in the process with his intensely gripping, raw brooding voice. This smokey, leathery song tells a lamenting tale of a prophet who’s treated like an outcast. Cobi is currently on tour with his band playing venues and music festivals throughout the US and Canada. He’s also set to tour with Boy & Bear in October. Having caught him at Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco earlier this year, I can vouch for the fact that he puts on a riveting show, belting out his songs with sheer strength and passion. Prophet Story will be available for download tomorrow, September 30th.

Nashville Americana, soul, and pop mainstays Johnnyswim are preparing for the release of their fourth full length album, Georgica Pond, come October 14th. They give us an earnest taste off the record in the form of Drunks, a sweepingly rousing, heartfelt marching folk anthem very much dewy eyed yet powerful. In celebration of the release of their new album, Johnnyswim will be embarking on a nationwide tour this fall, with many dates already sold out. Georgica Pond can be pre-ordered from various outlets, here.

While Flume’s eponymous self titled debut album will forever hold a special place in my heart, there’s no denying the ridiculous brilliance of Harley Streten’s sophomore album, Skin. It’s bursting at the seams with incredible collaborations and intensive compelling tracks. But then, what else would you expect from a man who is probably the most influential producer of the decade, or at least one of the top three, at the very least. I’m still buzzing from catching one of his sold out shows in San Francisco last week. How else better to feed that buzz than a purely wicked remix of Skin track Lose It, which features hip hop genius Vic Mensa, by Sydney producer Naderi? I’ve had moments where I felt convinced Lose It was my favorite track off Skin, though I’d find myself being carried away by other tracks off the album in the ensuing moments after. Naderi convinces me yet again that Lose It could be my number one with this impossible to resist remix. I “lose it” completely as Naderi’s gritty hard, snare entangling, savage gripping edit takes me over.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve listened to Gotye’s Kimbra featuring hit single Somebody That I Used To Know. The song itself feels like “somebody that I used to know”. It once dominated the world. Everywhere you turned, every which way you swiveled, every station you tuned into, the song was on. Though some people tired of hearing it that year, I’ll forever love both the single and its video. Los Angeles production act Airia recently offered up a brilliantly updated version of Somebody That I Used To Know that breathes new life into the stellar original. Aria’s creative future and melodic bass approach results in a colossal remix that surges and oscillates regally. Gotye’s gauzy vocals soar across this vast and magnificent soundscape like a glorious eagle. Aria’s massive edit is a free download, here. And he promises this track is but part of a large amount of new music he plans to start revealing.

We’ve all known how amazing Ellie Goulding’s voice is for a very long time now, yet strangely enough, I’m suddenly struck by its pristine beauty all over again whilst deeply enthralled by this remix of her song Still Falling For You by Germany’s Nick Talos. The producer’s crisp and sheer mixture of dance pop and electronica is weightless bouncing and cool enchanting in a very Jack Ü meets Tove Lo like manner. Nick Talos’ radiant glowing remix is a free download, here.
