To be honest, I’m still reeling from the sudden tragedy that befell one of my favorite emerging English bands earlier this year. The sweet lads of Viola Beach and their hard working manager were on the cusp of breaking out huge with infectious guitar pop anthems. At least we can find a little solace in the outpouring of love that they’ve received in the aftermath and the fact that the boys’ talent and music live on in the release of a posthumous debut album. A video has also been released for Viola Beach’s song Boys That Sing with support from the band members’ families as well as UK and US based family and entertainment production company, Komixx Entertainment. The video is inspired by the song’s lyrics and features mixed media animation mixed with live action footage shot on location in Viola Beach’s hometown Warrington. It’s an adorable visualizer, and it hits the heart hard. Boys That Sing is a plucky jangling song, but the circumstances that it arrives in only amplifies its bittersweet unducurrent. Rest in peace, Viola Beach, “boys that sing” in our hearts forever. Viola Beach’s self titled debut album is out now. Purchase from various outlets here. I eagerly await my CD version’s impending arrival.
