Netherlands based, Iranian born dark siren Sevdaliza was at the top of my list of acts to catch at SXSW a couple weeks ago, so I made it a priority to make my way out to one of the buzzing singer songwriter and producer’s many performances in Austin. Sure enough, Sevdaliza did not disappoint, sensually writhing and hauntingly cooing on stage. It was obvious that the whole of the crowd was utterly transfixed by her dark and seductive electronic R&B/pop. I found myself instantaneously looking forward to the next time I get to see Sevdaliza perform, hopefully right here in San Francisco. Lest you forgot how magnificent her FKA Twigs and Ibeyi evoking music can be, let’s watch the mysterious new music video for her song Marilyn Monroe. The song itself is both fragile and consuming, provocative and honest. Its video represents a struggle with Sevdaliza’s future self in finding spiritual truth through computed experiences. Marilyn Monroe is part of Sevdaliza’s stunning Children Of Silk EP, available from iTunes.
