Haybaby dishes out a darkly smoldering brand of indie rock and punk on Old Friends. The gripping song’s snarling guitars and propulsive beat remind me of Wolf Alice, while the scratchy yelping that kick in partway through are so Courtney Barnett. There’s even a hint of that provocative passion we love about Meg Myers within the rest of the simmering vocals when Haybaby isn’t in bellow mode. Old Friends is a striking song from the Brooklyn trio’s debut album, Sleepy Kids, out recently on Tiny Engines. I beseech you check out the album, which is available to stream on Soundcloud and available to purchase on Tiny Engine’s website.
