If you were to ask me for one of my favorite new artists of 2015, it’s with assured confidence that I would respond Day Wave. The Oakland based artist, who I recently learned used to be one half of Los Angeles synthpop duo Carousel, has been swooning me with his lo-fi, charming surf rock meets dream pop sound since Nothing At All surfaced late last year. This week, Day Wave released his debut EP, Headcase, which can be streamed in full on Soundcloud. While I’ve zealously shared with you pretty much most of the record in the past months, there’s a brand new swirly treat that I’ve yet to feature, the EP’s title track. As always, Jackson Phillips whisks me away into a world dripping with nostalgic wistfulness and cozy intimacy on the hazy, washed out gem, a perfect closer for Headcase. It joins a 5 track EP chock full of glistening, murky guitar pop beauty.
