I tend to dig a lot of bewitching dark pop or enchanting folk pop music from Sweden, but YAST reminds me that there’s a lot more than that coming from that magical area of the world, which seems chock full of talented musicians. The band’s new song When You’re Around is drenched in dreamy, murky slacker pop. Shoegazey guitars and a hazy atmosphere swirl like intoxicating fog around the song’s saccharine and romantic tendencies. This would be the perfect melodic treat for a lazy San Francisco afternoon on a breezy beach, when the sun barely peaks through a fine mist, creating a muted and washed out environment. When You’re Around is YAST’s first taste off their forthcoming second album, tentatively due out this fall on Adrian Recordings.
