OFFICIAL VID: Zella Day – Hypnotic

February 28, 2015

Los Angeles’ Zella Day was most definitely hypnotic on stage when I caught her charismatic, bewitching set at Popscene in San Francisco a few months ago. Today, she revealed a video for her very song Hypnotic. The sultry alt and electro pop song is ripe for a re-share now that we have some steamy visuals to go with the wickedly hot song, one of my favorites from the emerging artist. Hypnotic is off Zella Day’s self titled debut EP, out now.

German electronic pop artist Tkacuk recently released a new EP, Borders & Land. The title track is a spellbinding piece of finely textured and effervescent synthpop, playfully darting to and fro in a deliciously bubbly fashion from start to finish. It’s rapturously bright and sweetly sugary. You can stream the full Borders & Lines EP on soundcloud, here.

Arcade is the dreamy, murky, and intoxicating first single from new Australian synthpop artist Ella Thompson, who has previously written and worked with many other bands prior to the solo launch. The magnificent song is a woozy yet bold and emphatic listen. Ella also released an old fashioned VHS styled video for the song, which you can stream below. There’s a honeyed beauty to the song, with a dark, melancholic edge. Arcade is off Ella Thompson’s debut album Janus, due for release May 22nd.

This explosive and bright debut put a huge grin on my face earlier today. It’s one of those tunes that speaks volumes about a new artist’s potent ability to reach the hearts of many. KYKO is an 18 year old singer songwriter from London. His debut song Animals is a hooking alt pop gem with a driving beat and an incredibly infectious melody. If you love COASTS and Bastille, KYKO will lure you right in with his sound that carries some of the same qualities as those two acts’ music. Animals is an amazing debut that may very well be one of 2015’s break out hits.

Beautifully delicate and elegant vocals draw me in immediately on UK act Meadowlark’s latest offering, a supple gem named Fly. It’s another gliding, soothing treat off Meadowlark’s forthcoming sophomore EP, Dual. Crisp and sparkly, Fly is an entrancing song that slowly builds in intoxicating grandiosity. Dual is due out March 30th, and Meadowlark will be playing an EP launch party on March 24th in London which has already sold out.

This one will stop you in your tracks, trust me. New Australian singer songwriter Paul Conrad channels a gloomy, captivating sound on new single Records that evokes a male version of Lana Del Rey, but paired with a woozy, gritty sound that also reminds me of Blue October’s Justin Furstenfeld. Despite its raw graininess and blunt lyrics, Records is a very beautiful and stirring song that blends lo-fi rock with dark and ghostly electronic pop. It’s a song so bewitching and intriguing that you might find yourself listening to it on repeat for an unexpectedly long period of time. Records will be available digitally on March 6th.

American Kings’ high energy indie rock on their fun new single Shake will get you grooving and moving in no time. It’s an infectious dance rock song with a contagiously fierce and bold attitude. American Kings is an indie band that started in west Texas in 2013 before moving to Austin back in 2014. They’ve released two EPs in the past, but they consider Shake the epitome of their work so far. I haven’t heard their other music, but I must say, this one leaves an indelible, valiant mark.

Australian five piece Crepes released a reverb laden, whimsical slacker pop treat named Stages Of Fear this week. The punchy and playful tune is a laid back yet lively treat that reminds me both of the grittiness of early surf rocky Pixies with some of the idiosyncratic style of Spoon as well as a hint of hazy Tame Impala atmosphere. Stages Of Fear is a sunny, charming taste off Crepes’ soon to be released debut EP.

Old fashioned twangy guitars and endearing, rootsy Americana make for a beautiful listen on soothing folk rock song Half A Native from Texan band Buxton. The mellifluous song is the title track off Buxton’s new album, out March 3rd on New West Records. Melancholic and sweet, it’s the perfect song to soundtrack a pensive, introspective day of quiet reflection into the past.

The dewy eyed music fans out there will love this gorgeous gem, Be Yourself, from Australian folk singer songwriter Harrison Storm. Endearing harmonies and delicate strings accompany Harrison’s emotive vocals on the pastoral, supple tune. Be Yourself is mixed and produced by Hayden Calnin, another artist who’s received some much deserved love here on IHM. This one’s perfect for those of us who love the moving, sentimental music put forth by acts like Ben Howard and James Vincent McMorrow. Harrison Storm will be releasing an EP in April of this year, and Be Yourself will be on that release.
