It’s absolutely incredible how versatile Garden City Movement is when it comes to the electronic universe they have proven themselves so commanding in. While earlier songs like Move On were ambient, hushed tunes, later tracks like Bengali Cinema were dreamily uptempo jams. Now, the Israeli trio has revealed a new one carrying another twist in direction for them, the dark and haunting Recollections. Its murky, abrasive style and frenetic vibe, paired with thick, cutting falsettos, remind me of Until The Ribbon Breaks’ edgy music, with hints of SBTRKT’s minimalist drum work and FKA Twigs’ mystique. Recollections is quite the artsy, cerebral, and electrifying song. Garden City Movement will be releasing a new EP, Modern West, on April 6th via The Vinyl Factory. I’m much curious to see what other journeys the EP will take me on.
