New Surfer Blood

Florida indie rock band Surfer Blood previewed their new song Weird Shapes off their upcoming album Pythons. It’s a fuzzy, satisfying pop song. There’s something very Weezer and even The Strokes about the enjoyable track.

Brand effing new DEPECHE MODE

January 30, 2013

In what’s probably some of the biggest news of the music day, Depeche Mode premiered their first single off upcoming, eagerly anticipated new album Delta Machine. Stream Heaven below. It’s a treat. A very good, moody, yummy treat. There’s been so many veteran returns lately, and, come on, can you honestly say that they’ve all been great? I can’t. It’s tough, coming back on legendary status, getting critiqued harder than normal. But seriously, some of the comebacks lately have been meh in my opinion. Depeche Mode’s Heaven, however, sounds delish. It’s a slow burning, emotional track. I was afraid they’d do something more dancey or upbeat and end up sounding cheesy on their lead comeback single, but nope. They did right. They did well. Delta Machine comes out on March 26 and will be the guys’ THIRTEENTH studio album. Whoooweee.

OK, this is an exclusive right now on KROQ, the embed is not working (obviously). BUT please, do check out the new song, head over now:

NYC pop artist Alison Valentine is set to make some ripples in the machine. I first tuned into her work during summer of last year. That’s when I stumbled upon Moon Boots’ remix of her disco pop track Peanut Butter. Since then, I’ve noticed her name around every so often. Today, she previewed a new track titled Warm Winter’s Day. The electropop song is quite the throwback, bringing to mind expert Mariah Carey vocals with some Janet Jackson shimmery smooth R&B and a healthy dose of chilly fogginess. Posting Peanut Butter below again for those that missed it or crave something brighter, warmer and more dance party ready.

OFFICIAL VID: Ellie Goulding – Explosions

Ellie announced they’ve made a “little video for Explosions” with some live footage from her shows “old and new”. The song is a dramatic, lovely song that really shows off her amazing vocals. Explosions is off her recent, great sophomore album Halcyon. However, I’d pick debut album Lights any day over Halcyon. When it comes down to it, I love Ellie the most when she’s performing acoustic, or getting remixed by the likes of Bassnectar. Regardless, she’s always on top of her game and a mega talented pop star. Her voice is one of the most recognizable ones in the superstar pop machine these days. I’m so glad she made it this big. Way to go, Ellie.

Ben Gibbard + members of R.E.M.

January 30, 2013

Here’s some pretty cool live footage of Ben Gibbards on stage with members (Peter Buck and Mike Mills) of R.E.M. covering R.E.M.’s Near Wild Heaven! The clip is from the Todos Santos Festival in Mexico last weekend.  Hmm. Ben + R.E.M. isn’t a bad deal at all! His voice sounds great with the rest of the members. Gotta find more footage!
