Acoustic Trojans

November 30, 2012

Ack! As if the song couldn’t get any better… here I am, LOVING the acoustic version. No big surprise there, I tend to love acoustic, stripped down renditions of songs. Now THIS is going to get stuck in my head all week again. 😉 Atlas Genius for the win! I think I’ve spewed about the merits and wonderfulness of this song and Australian band enough times already. So, just enjoy the music, will ya?

OFFICIAL VID: Julia Holter – Goddess Eyes II

November 30, 2012

Experimental singer songwriter Julia Holter has a very interesting video for us for Goddess Eyes II off her critically acclaimed Ekstasis album. Supposedly, the video is inspired by the literary term “deus ex machina”, which refers to unresolvable dramatic situations that often require the “hand of god” or some other huge, unnatural force to resolve. For the most part, I tend to start thinking of the film Donnie Darko when I think of “deus ex machina”. In the video, I would think the miniatures represent that Greek stage. Is Julia God? Or another player on that stage? The bizarre video seems to fit her unique art pop.

I already had Youngblood Hawke’s infectious tune We Come Running stuck in my head for a good while this morning. If it were summer, this would be a summer anthem. And now there’s a remix by Brooklyn’s The Knocks! They never fail at making a good song even more ready for the dance floor. These guys rev up a heckuva dance party live, trust me.

No idea why the stream is erroring again above… Clicky here if needed:

OFFICIAL VID: The Babies – Baby

November 30, 2012

No, this isn’t some artsy recording of someone singing karaoke, though making it look so was the obvious intention. The Babies is a project made up of Vivian Girls’ frontwoman Cassie Ramone, Woods bassist Kevin Morby, and Bossy drummer Justin Sullivan. Together, they have a very lo-fi throwback garage rock sound. And their new video and single? It’s titled… Baby! The song is off their new sophomore album Our House on the Hill. If you missed my July share of their song Moonlight Mile, now’s the right time to check it out. It’s good. Click.

OFFICIAL VID: Matthew E. White – Will You Love Me

November 30, 2012

For some lush, charming Southern pop, check out Matthew E White. He’s been opening for the Mountain Goats on tour, and it’s easy to hear why he’s earned that spot. He even helped compose the horns sections for some of the Goats’ music. Below is the video for his single Will You Love Me. The relaxed, laid back, soulful pop has some big, warm sound with its gorgeous horns and strings. Is it me, or is there something very Lennon about his whole style?

OFFICIAL VID: Eternal Summers – Good As You

November 29, 2012

Virginia’s Eternal Summers create a dreamy, lo-fi atmosphere in their video for single Good As You, albeit in a mental hospital. Lead vocalist Nicole Yun has such a soothing voice, perfect for the vintage pop , almost Cults-like at times (especially on the higher notes). It’s a fuzzy, gorgeous, and slow shoegaze jam. Loving it.
